She opened her eyes and what she saw was the brightening sky every now and then. Though it was just around 5 AM, the sky had started gaining vividness due to the crackers. She looked out of the window and stood astonished with the colour and light. This time they had decided not to celebrate Diwali due to her mom’s elder sister’s demise.
‘Yesterday night, it was so cold due to the rain but now the sky is very clear.’ Her eyes brightened.
“Why are you awake so early?” She heard her mom’s voice from the kitchen over all the noise.
“Disturbed mom. This noise and light.” Though she said that she actually wasn’t. She had another reason to be awake so early. She quickly checked the clock. It read 5:20 AM.
‘I must get ready’ She murmured.
In the next ten minutes, she was in the kitchen with her mom making coffee for the entire family. Quite often her eyes checked the clock. Her parents left for the morning walk and she stayed back. She switched on the TV and at the instant (tried to) looked casually outside the front window.
She checked the opposite gate again restlessly.
‘There is no sign of life in the opposite door. Where are they? It is already close to 6 and the sun has started to brighten up!’
Every tick of the clock seemed as an hour to her.
The clock read 6 AM. The opposite gate still stood there motionless with no sign of activity.
Her parents got back and disappointment crept upon her face. She slid the door to close and heard her mom’s voice... “Let it be open”
She happily opened it and there she saw a group of people standing outside the opposite gate. Two elderly couples, a man, a young girl, a small boy and… HIM…
He was dressed in blue and black horizontally stripped T-shirt and dark blue jeans.
‘Smart’ She spoke within her lips. She blushed and her heartbeat was loud and fast.
Last evening, it happened while she was locking her front door. She looked past the gate casually and there he stood…
Smartly dressed… Handsome looking… with a lovable smile and catchy voice…
He was on phone with someone. She continued to observe him but her world froze when he looked directly into her eyes and smiled. Though they were around 30 feet away, she could sense the feeling of penetration. She slammed the door behind in a hurry and rushed in. That smile and look had kept her awake through the night…!
She got herself involved in the usual household activities. Her mind did waver around him but she cut off the imagination. Later that afternoon, she dozed off… and dreamt… obviously about him…

She could see colourful traces… glitters and sparkles. There they were, in midst of all the vividness – she and him. He extended his arms and took her close to him. He tilted her face upward and their eyes met. He said… “I love you”

She woke up in surprise. She had fallen in love with him...!
And yes... She could marry him... Her fiancé... Actually...
